But when you’re traveling with pets in your motorhome, you’ll want to take a few steps to make sure that everyone is safe and the ride is as comfortable as possible for pets and human passengers alike. Keep reading to learn more.

  1. Take them for a test run

One of the best ways to ensure that your pet’s first road trip is a success, is to help them get comfortable with your motorhome before heading out on your journey. You can do this by letting them explore the RV and by taking them on short trips inside their pet carrier so they can get used to how motorhomes feel when they’re in motion. This is especially important if you’re traveling with cats, who tend to take longer to adjust to life on the road.

  1. Get vaccinated

Being able to explore new places and meet new dogs can be a great experience for your pooch, but it can also expose them to new pests and illnesses. Ensure your pets are up-to-date on all their shots before you take a trip. Bring their veterinary records with you just in case.

  1. Make sure they have ID

Whether you’re traveling with a dog or a cat, it’s a good idea to make sure they’re wearing a collar with an up-to-date ID tag. An ID tag or microchip can save you a lot of heartache if your pet happens to get away from you.

  1. Plan ahead

Plan your route before you leave so you can ensure every pit stop you make during your vacation is pet friendly. There’s nothing worse than finding the perfect place to set up camp only to find out that the campground doesn’t accept pets.

  1. Pack extra treats

Be sure to pack plenty of gear for your pet including food, treats, water, bowls, extra towels, pet insect repellent, a leash, any medications they may need, a carrier, their bed, some toys, and anything else that you can think of to keep them happy and comfortable during your travels.
